Procurement

  • Serve as a central point of contact for all Product Development purchasing requirements.
  • Negotiate contract terms, price, and lead-time with suppliers.
  • Create and issue purchase orders as required for internal and external Product Development programs.
  • Manage the delivery schedule of all required materials and capital equipment ensuring delivery and quality commitments are met. 
  • Provide Product Development teams opportunities such as alternative suppliers and delivery expedite opportunities.
  • Assist Product Development teams in researching potential suppliers.
  • Support new business opportunities by expeditiously issuing and managing new part proposals or researching previous programs to accurately estimate cost.
  • Follow internal purchasing procedures, where applicable.
  • Evaluate the suppliers on the Approved Supplier List as first options for projects.

 Material Management

  • Ensure materials are available and acceptable for the appropriate phase activities.
  • Manage or co-manage the BOM for products in Product Development. 
  • Manage or co-manage component inventory for Product Development projects. 
  • Own and support material storage and organization for each Product Development project. 
  • Assist in activities that ensure efficient material movement through the Company’s system(s).
  • Responsible for BOM readiness for manufacturing launches including appropriate data management set-up.
  • Support supplier metrics with input from Product Development projects.
  • Ensure at transfer to manufacturing that all project inventories are still viable parts for manufacturing. If not, ensure that timely disposition is completed before transfer.

 Communication

  • Report status of open orders weekly to project teams
  • Report out risks and opportunities as it relates to components and materials on regular intervals to internal teams and clients.
  • Regularly solicit information from Product Development teams to anticipate component and material changes to ensure effective material planning.
  • Manage and issue the CDA process for Product Development.
  • Coordinate meetings between suppliers and required Product Development personnel.
  • Visit and suppliers as required.
  • Coordinate required supplier audit requests with the Supplier Quality Engineer.

 Professional Experience and Skills

  • Minimum of five years experience purchasing, preferably in product development and/or the medical device industry
  • Proficient in the use of standard word processing and spreadsheet software
  • Ability to create Excel spreadsheets and manage data within them
  • Strong verbal & written communication skills
  • Demonstrated time management and planning skills
  • Ability to develop and present using PowerPoint slides
  • Capable of multi-tasking multiple projects.
  • Work with minimum supervision
  • Pro-active decision maker
  • Problem solving skills
  • Facilitation leadership
  • Strong comprehension of the FDA QSR and GMP

 Education

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred 
  • Basic mathematic and accounting skills

 Physical Demands      

  • Ability to work extended hours and travel as required         
  • Must perform light lifting       
  • Work in controlled environment rooms while fully gowned
